Gambian Delegate Joins International Model OIC Conference in Istanbul, Calls for Justice for Palestine

The Gambian Delegate Participates in International Model OIC Conference in Istanbul, Focused on Justice for Palestine

Istanbul, Turkey  A young Gambian delegate is currently participating in the International Model OIC Conference held in Istanbul under the central theme: "Justice for Palestine, Resistance Against Oppression." The event serves as a critical platform for youth across the Muslim world to simulate high-level diplomacy and address pressing issues confronting the Ummah, with a special focus on the Palestinian struggle.

The conference, hosted since 2018, is organized by Beyoğlu Anatolian Imam Hatip High School, under the supervision of the Beyoğlu Education and Culture Foundation (BECF) and in collaboration with the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF). It replicates the workings of the Islamic Summit and Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) the world’s second-largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations, comprising 57 member states across four continents.

The Model OIC provides participating students with hands-on experience in multilateral diplomacy, negotiation, international relations,  and policy making. Delegates engage in discussions mirroring real-world challenges, such as the ongoing crisis in Palestine, and offer diplomatic solutions in a simulated international setting.

Speaking during the event, the Gambian participant described the conference as "a justice struggle for the liberation of the people of Palestine," emphasizing that the issue is not merely political but a profound moral crisis. The delegate called for unity among Muslim youth in advocating for freedom, justice, and peace, adding that the participation of young people from OIC countries reflects a hopeful future and a commitment to shaping global affairs.

The conference takes place at a time of heightened global attention on Palestine, amid international calls for an end to occupation and human rights violations. Delegates are also discussing broader issues affecting Muslim nations, including security, cooperation, and economic development.
