The U.S. Department of Justice has officially initiated a federal civil rights investigation into the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a move announced by the Deputy Attorney General. This investigation aims to determine whether the law enforcement officers involved violated federal laws or used excessive force during the encounter that led to Pretti’s death. By invoking federal oversight, the DOJ signals that the circumstances surrounding the incident warrant a deeper look beyond the initial local and state-level inquiries.
