Michigan synagogue attacker identified as Ayman Ghazaleh As Investigators

Michigan synagogue attacker identified as Ayman Ghazaleh, as investigatorsInvestigative reports have identified Ayman Ghazaleh, a resident of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, as the suspect behind the recent attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.

On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the suspect reportedly rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the synagogue's entrance before opening fire. While authorities were initially cautious about releasing a name, local and national news outlets have linked the 25 year old to the scene, where he was ultimately neutralized by responding law enforcement officers.

The FBI has officially categorized the incident as a targeted attack on the Jewish community, describing it as a deeply disturbing and tragic act of violence. During the assault, a security guard sustained minor injuries, but miraculously, all other staff and approximately 140 children enrolled in the synagogue’s preschool were unharmed. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard confirmed that the vehicle involved caught fire shortly after the crash, adding a layer of volatility to an already chaotic scene.

Investigators are currently delving into Ghazaleh’s background and potential motives. Preliminary reports suggest that Ghazaleh, who is of Lebanese descent, may have been driven by personal tragedy related to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. It is reported that several of his family members in Lebanon were recently killed in an air strike. Sources indicate he had shared photos of these family members on social media just a day before the attack, leading investigators to believe the shooting was a retaliatory act of extremism.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated that, based on current evidence, the attacker appears to have acted alone. However, the methods used specifically the combination of a vehicle ramming, explosives, and firearms have drawn comparisons to ISIS style tactics often highlighted in global terror manuals. Law enforcement agencies are now conducting a thorough digital forensic analysis of Ghazaleh’s devices to determine if he had any affiliations with organized groups or if he was a self radicalized lone wolf.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the Michigan community and the wider nation, prompting an outpouring of solidarity for Temple Israel. President Trump and other political leaders have condemned the violence, calling for increased security at religious institutions. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of the Jewish community and understanding the full scope of the radicalization that led to this terrifying event in West Bloomfield.
